Project Description:
Southside Community Land Trust started the Farm Business Incubator Program at Urban Edge Farm in 2002. After marketing and business training, and an agricultural skills training, farmers rent up to two acres of land at Urban Edge Farm. Incubator farmers can remain members of the Farm Business Incubator Program as long as they abide by the contract they sign with SCLT. SCLT hopes to increase the number of farmers in the state of Rhode Island, in particular the number of minority farmers and the number of minority-operated small businesses in the state of Rhode Island.Mission: To assist people who lack the resources to start a for-profit agricultural business but wish to do so.
